Baroque Art & Edo Print

In CTXT -1222, Making Modernities (Fall 2024), I created an overhead view of the City of Savannah. I combined an overall Baroque-style layout with a rooftop gathering as the focal point, surrounded by simplified, flat buildings inspired by Edo prints. I incorporated Baroque details to achieve balance while maintaining Edo’s open negative space in the sky. Tenebrism is evident through the stark contrast of light illuminating from the windows, while Baroque's colors and Edo’s muted tones on the buildings are utilized. Inspiration from both periods is used for the surrounding nature and elements, blending both styles into a cohesive composition. Below (from left to right) the initial linework, refined linework, initial color in, and final piece
